PRESS RELEASE
Tuesday November 17, 2015 at 7:40pm the Mattapoisett Police received a call from the Hillside Motel room 102 reporting a domestic assault in progress. Upon arrival at the Hillside Motel they met with Elizabeth Porter in the parking lot. Elizabeth reported to Officer Aldaberto Cardoso that there was an argument. During the conversation, Elizabeth admitted to strangling Melissa after Melissa pushed her against the door twice. Elizabeth Porter was arrested for domestic assault and battery.
Officers found Melissa Porter in room 102 crying uncontrollably. After calming Melissa down, she told Officer Kyle Pavao that her mother, Elizabeth Porter put her hands around Melissa’s throat and was strangling her. Melissa reported that she could not breath. Melissa Porter was arrested for domestic assault and battery.
There were three males in room 102 with Melissa. All appeared intoxicated. Cory Berard age 26 listing an address of 6 Albatross Ave. E. Wareham was arrested on a Default Warrant for disorderly conduct. Cory initially told officers that his name was Brett Berard and provided Brett’s social security number and date of birth. Officer Cardoso ran the information provided on his cruiser Mobile Data Terminal. Based on the Registry photograph of Brett Berard it was clear that the male in room 102 was not Brett. Cory admitted to using his brother Brett’s information.
Cory was charged with giving a false name and social security number to the police, and knowingly possessing Class B Suboxone without a prescription. He was held on $400.00 bail and arraigned at Wareham District Court on Wednesday .
All three were transported to the Mattapoisett Police Department. During the booking process, Elizabeth Porter was found to be in possession of three different prescription medications for which she did not have a prescription. She also admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the day. While being booked , Elizabeth was slurring her speech and falling asleep in the middle of a sentence. She became lethargic and difficult to arouse. Elizabeth stated that she had taken Xanax , Fioricet, Neurontin and Oxycontin. EMS was notified and Elizabeth was taken to Tobey Hospital.
At 12:03am, Melissa was exhibiting symptoms of an overdose as well. She was transported via ambulance to Saint Lukes Hospital.
Elizabeth and Melissa were admitted to the hospital in custody. Officers had to remain at the hospital until such time that the patient was coherent and could be arraigned.
At approximately 12:30pm, Wednesday November 18, 2015, Elizabeth M Porter age 59 was arraigned from her hospital bed at Tobey by a Judge and Clerk of Courts from Wareham District Court on the following charges : Assault & Battery Domestic, Strangulation, Possession of Class E narcotics, 3 counts (Fioicet, Neurontin , Xanax). Elizabeth has an address of 7 Marks Way Carver, MA and is residing at the Hillside Motel.
Melissa M. Porter age 25, was arraigned at approximatel y 3:00pm from her hospital bed at Saint Luke’s Hospital by a Judge and Clerk of Courts from New Bedford District Court on the following charge: Assault & Battery Domestic. Melissa has an address of 150 Ellsworth Street Brockton, MA and is residing at the Hillside Motel.
