MATTAPOISETT POLICE
PRESS RELEASE
On Thursday, August 17, 2017, Detectives from the Mattapoisett Police Department arrested Omot Okori age 20, from 64 Winter St Fall River, MA as a result of a joint investigation with Detectives from the Dartmouth Police Department.
On Wednesday, August 16, 2017, the Mattapoisett Police Department received reports of car breaks in the Brandt Island and Harbor Beach area. Multiple items were taken from the vehicles including but not limited to laptops, credit cards, and sunglasses.
The stolen credit cards were utilized to purchase multiple play station 4’s from the Walmart Superstore in Fall River and additional attempted purchases at the Walmart in Dartmouth. Later that day Detectives from the Dartmouth Police Department located what they believed to be the stolen merchandise on the Letgo app.
Detectives from the Mattapoisett and Dartmouth Police Departments arranged to meet Okori at a pre-arranged location to purchase the merchandise. Once on location Okori met with an undercover police officer posing as the buyer. It was immediately determined that the merchandise was the merchandise purchased with the stolen credit cards. Okori was also found in possession of the stolen credit cards and some of the property taken from the car breaks in Mattapoisett the day before.
Subsequently, Okori was placed under arrest and transported back to the Mattapoisett Police Station to be booked. Okori was charged with B&E into a vehicle with the intent to commit a felony, larceny of credit cards, and larceny of $250.00.
The investigation is still ongoing and more charges may follow pending the outcome of the investigation. All residents are reminded to lock their vehicles at all times and do not leave any valuables in the car.
