FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On Monday, April 6, 2015 at approximately 10:45 pm, Wareham Police Department detectives, assisted by detectives from the Middleboro and Mattapoisett Police Departments, executed a search warrant for illegal drugs, namely heroin, at #614 Gatehouse Drive, which is located in the Union Pond Apartments complex in East Wareham, MA.
Upon entry into the apartment, detectives encountered a male exiting the bathroom, where a powdery substance believed to be heroin was located on the floor and toilet areas, along with two plastic baggies containing suspected heroin. A further search of the apartment revealed the presence of approximately 14 grams of the same powder substance, along with three digital scales and several corner cut plastic baggies.
The male present in the apartment was identified as 33 year old New York resident Callis Phillip, who was arrested and charged with Possession of a Class A Substance (Heroin) With Intent to Distribute and Possession of a Class A Substance (Heroin).
The renter of the apartment, 63 year old Ronald “Red” Gomes, was not present during the execution of the search warrant, but was located nearby on Depot Street, where he was placed into custody without incident. During an inventory search of his property, Mr. Gomes was found to be in possession of a small amount of a substance believed to be cocaine.
As a result of evidence located at his apartment and on his person at the time of his arrest, Ronald Gomes has been charged with Possession of a Class A Substance (Heroin) With Intent to Distribute and Possession of a Class A Substance (Heroin), as well as Possession of a Class B Substance (Cocaine), all of which are subsequent offenses.
Both males were arraigned on the charges at Wareham District Court on Tuesday, April 7, 2015.
