A joint narcotics investigation between the Mattapoisett and Barnstable Police Departments led to the arrest of Spencer Mello, age 24 and Antone Mello, age 44, both from 968 Point Rd in Marion, MA.
Over the past few month narcotics officers conducted surveillance of Spencer and Antone Mello. During this time it was discovered that both Spencer and Antone were selling illegal narcotics from 3 separate locations. These locations were identified as 968 Point Rd. in Marion, the Hillside Motel in Mattapoisett, and 50 New Plainville Rd Apt. M76 in New Bedford, MA.
Throughout the investigation narcotics officers conducted multiple controlled purchases of heroin from Spencer and Antone Mello from each location. In addition, Spencer Mello was utilizing his vehicle to conduct drug transactions in various locations from Cape Cod to New Bedford.
On Wednesday January 21, 2015 Narcotics Officers executed a total of 6 search warrants. As a result of the search warrants Officers seized a total of approximately 14 grams of heroin and approximately 14 grams of cocaine, some of which was already packaged for distribution.
In addition to the heroin and cocaine, Spencer Mello was found in the possession of ammunition, large capacity magazine, bullet proof tactical vest, brass knuckles, digital scales, packaging material, and a commercial grade money counter.
Antone Mello was found in the possession of crack cocaine, packaging material, digital scales and brass knuckles.
Officers also seized a total of $2000 in US currency and a 2005 Toyota Scion.
Subsequently Spencer Mello was charged with possession with intent to distribute a class “A” substance (heroin), possession with the intent to distribute a class “B” substance (cocaine), possession of a high capacity magazine, and possession of ammunition without an FID card. Bail was set on Thursday at $10,000.
Antone Mello was charged with possession with intent to distribute a class “B” substance (cocaine).
During this investigation, the Mattapoisett Police Department and Barnstable Police department received assistance in the investigation from the Wareham Police Department. In addition, detectives from the South Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) detective division assisted in the execution of the search warrants. These agencies consisted of Fairhaven Police, Seekonk Police, Carver Police and Marion Police. Also, members of the Bristol County Sheriffs South Coast Anti-crime Task Force, Plymouth County Sheriffs K-9 unit and Bourne Police K-9 also assisted with the execution of the search warrants.
